1. What is the validity period of the B1 driver's license?
According to Articles 59 and 60 of the Road Traffic Law 2008, individuals aged 18 and above can apply for the B1 driver's license course and exam. Upon passing the driving test, the student will be issued a B1 driver's license to operate a car on the road.
Article 17 of Circular 12/2017/TT-BGTVT stipulates the validity period of the B1 driver's license as follows:
"The B1 driver's license is valid until the driver reaches 55 years old for women and 60 years old for men. In the case of drivers over 45 years old for women and over 50 years old for men, the driver's license is issued with a validity period of 10 years from the date of issuance."
According to this regulation, the validity period of the B1 driver's license is determined based on the driver's age at the time of issuance:
- Drivers aged 45 and below (women) or below 50 (men): The B1 driver's license is valid until the driver reaches 55 years old (women) or 60 years old (men).
- Drivers over 45 (women) or over 50 (men): The B1 driver's license is valid for 10 years from the date of issuance.
2. Does the B1 driver's license need to be retested after expiration?
According to Article 36 of Circular 12/2017/TT-BGTVT, when the driver's license expires, the driver can apply for a renewal. Depending on the length of the expiration, the driver may need to retest for the B1 driver's license or not. Specifically:
- The B1 driver's license expires within 3 months: The driver can renew the driver's license without retesting.
- The B1 driver's license expires between 3 months and less than 1 year: The driver can renew the B1 driver's license after passing the retest for the theoretical exam.
- The B1 driver's license expires for 1 year or more: The driver can renew the B1 driver's license after passing the retest for both the theoretical and practical exams.
