There are currently 11 types of driver's licenses in circulation and use in Vietnam.
Below is a list of these 11 types of driver's licenses. According to Circular 12/2017/TT-BGTVT of the Ministry of Transport dated April 15, 2017, on training, examination, and issuance of motor vehicle driver's licenses, the current system of driver's licenses in Vietnam includes the following types:
1. A1 driver's license - For riding motorcycles with a cylinder capacity from 50 cm3 to less than 175 cm3 - For disabled people riding three-wheeled motorcycles designed for disabled people.
2. A2 driver's license - For riding motorcycles with a cylinder capacity of 175 cm3 and above, and other types of motorcycles specified for A1 driver's license.
3. A3 driver's license - For riding three-wheeled motorcycles, and other types of motorcycles specified for A1 driver's license.
4. A4 driver's license - For driving small tractors with a weight up to 1000kg.
5. B1 driver's license: automatic transmission - For non-professional drivers to drive the following types of vehicles: - Automatic transmission vehicles carrying up to 9 passengers, including the driver - Trucks, including automatic transmission trucks with a design weight under 3,500 kg - Vehicles for disabled people.
6. B1 driver's license: manual transmission - For non-professional drivers to drive the following types of vehicles: - Vehicles carrying up to 9 passengers, including the driver - Trucks, including manual transmission trucks with a design weight under 3,500 kg - Trailers towed by vehicles with a design weight under 3,500 kg.
7. B2 driver's license - For professional drivers to drive the following types of vehicles: - Cars with 4-9 seats, including specialized vehicles with a design weight under 3.5 tons - Vehicles specified for B1 driver's license.
8. C driver's license - For driving cars with 4-9 seats, trucks, including specialized trucks, and trailers towed by vehicles with a design weight from 3,500 kg and above - Vehicles specified for B1 and B2 driver's licenses.
9. D driver's license - For driving vehicles with 10-30 seats, including the driver's seat - Vehicles specified for B1, B2, and C driver's licenses.
10. E driver's license - For driving vehicles with over 30 seats - Vehicles specified for B1, B2, C, and D driver's licenses. Drivers with B1, B2, C, D, and E licenses can also tow a trailer with a design weight not exceeding 750 kg.
11. F driver's license - For drivers who already have B2, C, D, and E licenses to drive vehicles towing trailers with a design weight exceeding 750 kg, semi-trailers, and articulated buses, as specified below:
FB2 driver's license: for driving vehicles according to B2 license requirements towing a trailer.
FC driver's license: for driving vehicles according to C license requirements towing a trailer.
FD driver's license: for driving vehicles according to D license requirements towing a trailer.
FE driver's license: for driving vehicles according to E license requirements towing a trailer.
