B1 class car driving license

1. What can you drive with a B1 license?


According to the regulations in Article 16 of Circular 12/2017/TT-BGTVT, the B1 driver's license (or B1 license for short) is divided into two types: B1 automatic and B1. With these driver's licenses, drivers can operate the following types of vehicles:

* B1 automatic license allows driving the following types of vehicles:

- Automatic passenger cars with up to 9 seats, including the driver's seat.

- Trucks, including automatic trucks with a design weight below 3,500 kg.

- Vehicles for people with disabilities.

* B1 license allows driving the following types of vehicles:

- Passenger cars with up to 9 seats, including the driver's seat.

- Trucks, including trucks with a design weight below 3,500 kg.

- Tractor towing a trailer with a design weight below 3,500 kg.

Note: B1 automatic and B1 licenses are only issued to non-professional drivers. If you want to drive professionally, you must obtain a B2 license or higher.

2. Registering for B1 driver's license training


2.1. What are the conditions for obtaining a B1 driver's license?


In addition to the question "What can you drive with a B1 license?", people are also curious about the conditions for obtaining a B1 driver's license. According to Article 7 of Circular 12/2017/TT-BGTVT, the conditions for obtaining a B1 license are as follows:

- Regarding the applicant: Vietnamese citizens, foreigners residing or working, studying in Vietnam.

- Regarding age: At least 18 years old (counted on the date of the driving test).

- Regarding health: Not having any diseases listed in Appendix 1 issued with Inter-Ministerial Circular 24/2015/TTLT-BYT-BGTVT.

- Regarding educational level: No educational requirements.

2.2. What documents are required to register for B1 driving license?


According to Article 9, Clause 1 of Circular 12/2017, the application for B1 driving license should include the following documents:

- Application form for driving and examination license.

- Copy of identity card or citizen identification card or valid passport (for Vietnamese citizens) or valid passport (for Vietnamese citizens residing abroad).

- Copy of valid passport (with at least 6 months remaining) and temporary residence card or permanent residence card or diplomatic identity card or official identity card (for foreigners).

- Health certificate issued by an authorized medical facility.

2.3. How long does it take to obtain a B1 driving license?


According to Article 13, Clause 1a of Circular 12/2017/TT-BGTVT, the training duration at driving training centers for B1 driving license is as follows:

- Automatic transmission vehicles: 476 hours (theory: 136, practical driving: 340).
- Manual transmission vehicles: 556 hours (theory: 136, practical driving: 420).

2.4. How much does it cost to get a B1 driving license?


According to Article 2, Clause 4 of Circular 72/2011/TTLT-BTC-BGTVT, the tuition fee for B1 driving license is determined by the driving training center. Therefore, the fee may vary depending on the facilities and instructors of each driving school.

Generally, the tuition fee for B1 driving license ranges from around 6 to 8 million VND (excluding examination fees).
