How to Get a Student Visa in Vietnam
Student visa or Vietnam student visa is a document issued by a competent Vietnamese agency to foreigners entering Vietnam for the purpose of studying or practicing. Vietnam student visa symbol: DH.
1. Conditions for applying for a Vietnam student visa for foreigners:
Pursuant to Article 10 of the Law on entry, exit, transit and residence of foreigners in Vietnam, the conditions for visa issuance are as follows:
- Have a passport or valid international travel document.
- There are agencies, organizations and individuals in Vietnam to invite or guarantee, except for the case specified in Clause 3, Article 17 of this Law.
- Not falling into the cases that are not allowed to enter the country specified in Article 21 of this Law.
- Foreigners entering to study must have a written acceptance from the Vietnamese school or educational institution.
2. Term of Vietnam student visa:
Vietnam student visa for foreigners has the symbol: DH. The duration of a Vietnam student visa is at least 30 days shorter than that of a passport or travel document.
The maximum duration of a DH Visa is 12 months.
3. Entry process for foreigners using Vietnam student visa
To enter Vietnam with a student visa, foreigners need to complete the following 2 steps:
Step 1: Apply for a visa to enter Vietnam – Purpose of entry to study abroad.
This is an important step if you want to apply for a student visa. In order to get an entry official, the individual or guarantor in Vietnam must make a dossier at the Vietnam Immigration Agency to agree to allow foreigners to enter Vietnam.
Step 2: Do procedures to receive student visa for foreigners.
Foreigners come to receive Vietnam student visas at Vietnam's embassies or consulates abroad, international land border gates or international airports of Vietnam. Locations allowed to receive Vietnam visas are based on the entry dispatch approved by the Vietnam Immigration Department.
4. Procedures for applying for an entry guarantee letter for foreigners using a Vietnam student visa:
In a nutshell, an entry guarantee letter is an entry permitting document issued by the Vietnam Immigration Department that has agreed to allow foreigners to enter and exit Vietnam once.
To enter the country for the purpose of studying or practicing for foreigners, the application for a Vietnam student visa includes:
- Document of guarantee for entry visa for foreigners under the form NA2 (TT 04/2015/TT-BCA)
- Written certification of the school or educational institution in Vietnam
- A copy of the passport of the person who needs to enter the country with a validity of more than 1 year
- Certified copy documents proving the person entering the internship, study and study program.

- Letter of introduction/authorization.
After preparing the above documents well, the guarantee organization appoints a representative to submit the dossier at the Immigration Department where the guarantee organization's head office is located.
Within 05 working days from the date of receipt of the written application for visa, the immigration management agency shall consider, process and reply to the inviting, guaranteeing agency, organization or individual and notify the applicant. to the Vietnamese visa-issuing authority abroad.
